Show producer Steve Schmidt has lined up more than 75 participants. Interest has been growing for this show and more artists from outside the immediate area will be displaying work. The exhibit is juried so expect to see high quality work. It is truly a «fine art» show.

The label however does not exclude one from purchasing affordable pieces as many artists will offer prints, giclees, cards, and small items with prices to fit all budgets.

We are not alone

This year, as we bow our heads over our giblets, we have reason to put a little extra «thanks» into Thanksgiving: The One News What? blog.

One News What? is described as, «An exploratory study of the loony wing of the Christian Right» or, as author vesti explains in his inaugural post,

Hello, and welcome to the disturbing world of OneNewsNow.com. It's a vast, dark, ignorant, vacant lot of fundamentalist id, where like-minded evangelical extremists can fight over who loves Jesus the most (hint - to win, you have to REALLY hate homosexuals).

We ask you, is that a book jacket excerpt for OneNewsNow.com--or what?

One News What? presents an exploratory study of Eureka Springs, and the AFA's on again, off again, boycott, don't boycott (but do be a do-bee and buy our movie!)

Stars shining bright above you

I've been touring some astrology websites. Here are some fascinating facts about me, a Sagittarius:

Sometimes Sagittarians can get caught up in form, rather than substance.

True. I enjoy the form of a man in Levi's 501s. I couldn't care less if there's a brain there or not. I've always been as intrigued by the packaging as the product.

Sagittarians are gifted with foresight and good judgment.

Very false. See above. If foresight and good judgment were involved, I'd go for the guy in the 3-piece suit. The one with a brain.

To Boycott or Not? Fundies Flip and Flop

Though incessantly threatening to stay away in droves from Gay Mecca, ultra-Christian fringies can't seem to make up their righteous minds.

Boycott--kinda, sorta, maybe, not really I:

Within a week of calling for a «nationwide boycott» of Eureka Springs, the rabidly anti-gay Jericho Riders (so-called) Christian Motorcycle Ministry had an apparent change of heart and announced that it would be returning to hold yet another cast-out-the-queers «prayer walk» in Basin Park December 7.

As you may recall, Basin Park was the scene of an ugly incident Nov. 3 when one leather-clad bible thug and two minions surrounded, badgered and bellowed at city councilwoman Kathy Harrison and her young son until bystanders came to the rescue.

Though based in neighboring Missouri, the Jericho Riders are warmly welcomed locally by Rev. Phil «Flip» Wilson of the First Christian Church of Eureka Springs and Al Pryor, publisher of the weekly newspaper, Patriot's Herald. Both vigorously opposed the city's Domestic Partnership Registry which gives official city recognition to unmarried gay and straight couples. Wilson hosted a rally for the homophobic Riders at his church Nov. 2. Pryor writes blatantly-biased accounts of their visits.

Days of Wine and Art

Mix together one batch of good art with several bottles of tasty wine andyou have a recipe to please the discerning palates of both art aficionados and wine connoisseurs. Edwige Denyszyn and Doug Hausler have successfully mixed the two ingredients in their Keels Creek Winery and Art gallery, 3185 East Van Buren, Eureka Springs, AR.

The couple moved to Eureka Springs from Bartlesville, OK, to pursue their dream of making fine Arkansas wine. In 2004 and 2005 they planted ten varieties of grape on ten acres three miles outside the city limits. Since it takes years to harvest a crop, the couple used grapes from other Arkansas vineyards to begin their wine production. Almost immediately they started winning awards for their efforts.

Located in a lovely wooded setting in town, their spacious 3000 square foot retail space showcases both wine and art in a comfortable and well-appointed setting. Inside the Spanish style mini mansion, walls and cases are adorned with the works of 27 local and regional artists.

This past Thursday (Nov 8th) Denyszyn and Hausler hosted La Soiree in the gallery. The event was part of the Eureka Springs Wine Weekend festival.

The French born Edwige outdid herself with hors d'oeuvres and musician Rachel Fields provided just the right blend of soothing music. A large number of guests sampled Keels Creek wine including three new wines that premiered that evening.

Post Label

Just when we thought we'd heard the last word on gay slang (which happened about the time our local Religious Rightfolk decided that «eclectic» is secret code for «gay,») a new definition appeared in the Official Gay Dictionary.

(Why yes, Mary. There is one.)

Our Gay News adjective of the day is, «Post Label,» defined as, «A term used to describe individuals that prefer not to label their sexual identity as gay, bisexual or straight. Post-label individuals see sexuality as more fluid than the traditionally rigid interpretations of gay or straight.»

Gender benders rejoice! And, if that's not enough to get you voguing in the streets, here's another snippet of happy news: The most recent example of support for the concept of post label sexuality comes from none other than the hyper-macho world of college football.

You may have seen headlines recently about a study finding that a third of American football players have engaged in gay sex. But that wasn't the point of the study... exactly.

The extreme makeover

THE EXTREME MAKEOVER

Extreme Home Makeover is in Kansas City again. They did a house north of the river last year, one in south Kansas City about 5 years ago (both on the Missouri side), now they're doing one in Kansas City, Kansas. This is part of their «one in every state» campaign. Fred, my partner, absolutely hates the show. «Well hell! If I had unlimited resources I could build a house in a week too!» He has a point.

I'm a lot like Ty Pennington. Or, I would be if I were much better looking, screamed a lot through a bullhorn, and knew anything about home remodeling.

It's really fascinating how the whole city has been caught up in the hoopla of this show. One of the local TV stations has been on-site 24 hours a day, giving «breaking news» updates on the project:

«This is Ima Socute, reporting live here in K.C.K., where they just nailed up a shingle! You heard it FIRST here on Action News! We're the only station in town reporting this story!»
