Little Bread Company

Where can you find a Hungry, Hungry Hippie in Eureka Springs? At the Little Bread Company, of course, where «Hungry, Hungry Hippie» is a Little Bread Company signature sandwich.

Known to Eurekans as «the bakery,» (as in «meet me at the bakery,») the Little Bread Company is a popular village gathering place. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a cafe in small town Europe. No, there isn't a soccer game playing on a small TV behind the counter. Nobody ever stops to holler sacré bleu! and mourn a football score in the middle of your order. The LBC isn't quite that European.

But regular patrons sip Espresso, eat croissants, read newspapers, engage in spirited conversation and dart in from the natural food market next door to complete their grocery shopping with a loaf of the freshly baked bread that gives the Little Bread Company (LBC) its moniker.

Rowdy Beaver Restaurant & Tavern

Rowdy Beaver Restaurant & TavernThat's right Grrls. Eureka Springs has a restaurant named «Rowdy Beaver.» Hold the double entendre. We'll get to that when we Ruthlessly Review the business that offers you a chance to «Dive on Beaver.» (Yes there is one. Really.)

Rowdy Beaver is a family-style roadhouse, complete with an under-12-kit menu for your little Beavers and Beaverettes. If you're a loyal Diversity visitor who wonders whatever happened to the fun folks at the Copacabana Club, now you know: Bartender Mikie is spinning the blender at the Beaver Bistro; Lita is spinning the hits on Thursdays at the Beaver's «Karaoke with Lita.»

The menu at the Rowdy Beaver includes basic roadhouse comfort food: burgers, sandwiches, steaks, chops, seafood, beer, wine and a full bar. As Coca-Cola addicts in a village awash in Pepsi, the Gay News Noshing Crew finds it inexplicably important to mention that the Rowdy Beaver serves genuine Coca-Cola products.

North Star Cafe & Juice Bar

The newest star in Eureka's culinary constellation serves a 100% organic vegetarian and vegan menu.

The North Star Cafe & Juice Bar is located in a converted house on mostly-residential Wall Street. You have to know somebody to find the place (or look at the map on North Star's web site.) If the tables on the front porch are full, and they usually are, you'll find soothing colors, hand painted murals and mellow alternative and world music inside--are we getting the vibe?

The menu includes fresh juices (carrot, cucumber, beet, apple and lemon to name a few); Celestial Smoothies--our favorite is The Black Hole (iced coffee, organic chocolate syrup & whole milk. Add whey protein for an extra dollar if you simply must.) Other favorites include Vegetarian Sushi and Sandwich Wraps rolled in enormous whole wheat tortillas.
